Established in 1999 and headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, Wheeler Real Estate Company (WHLR) was formed with the purpose of acquiring, developing, leasing, managing, and investing in income producing assets. Our company has come a long way from originally owning and managing approximately 5.7 million square feet of commercial property in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest regions.
In 2022, WHLR acquired Cedar Realty Trust, another high-performing real estate investment trust (REIT) originally based out of New York, that specializes in the management of predominately grocery-anchored shopping centers in high density urban markets. The acquisition included taking on 19 of its assets, strategically entering us into three new states, now totaling our portfolio to over 8 million square feet. With their disciplined focus and thoughtful capital allocation, we are able to continue to position ourselves as the most pioneering REIT.
